The 2023 Asia Cup 2023 Asia Cup schedule - It is likely to be played in Pakistan but different overseas venue for Indian matches. is likely to be played in Pakistan with another overseas venue hosting India's matches. BadshahBook has learned that both the BCCI and the PCB are moving quickly to mediate a solution after an initial dispute that could see the two teams play their tournament matches against each other outside of Pakistan.

An overseas venue has not been confirmed, but the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Sri Lanka and even England are potential contenders to host five matches, including at least two India-Pakistan contests.

A total of 13 matches will be played over 13 days, including the final. According to the format for the 2022 Asian Cup, the top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 4s, and the top two teams will then play in the final. There remains a possibility that India and Pakistan will play three times.

Currently, a small task force has been formed with the task of creating a schedule and itinerary to suit all participating countries and the broadcaster before the final challenge is accepted. Weather is likely to play a key role in determining the second venue outside of Pakistan, although among Asian venues there will be interest in hosting high-profile matches between India and Pakistan.

Temperatures in early September are usually around 40 degrees Celsius in the UAE, although this has not stopped cricket from being played there: IPL 2021 was played there in the last week of September, however, Pakistan played internationals during early September. Temperatures remain cooler in Muscat, Oman's capital, and host the first round of the T20 World Cup in 2021.

The option for England remains ambitious, although the prospect of large crowds in a city like London is likely to be attractive. The possibility of hosting a part of the Asia Cup outside Pakistan was agreed in principle as the most advantageous by all members of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) when they met at Dubai the previous weekend over the sidelines of the ICC's quarterly board meetings. After failing to reach a resolution in mid-March in Bahrain at the ACC meeting, members met for two more rounds of informal discussions in Dubai.

The PCB, which has the rights to host the Asia Cup in 2023, was represented by its chairman Najam Sethi, while the BCCI team consisted of its secretary Jay Shah and Arun Dhumal, chairman of the IPL board.

With relations continuing as they are, Shah told the ACC that India would not be able to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. He reiterated his position when discussions began in Dubai. The PCB did the same and said that if the entire tournament was pulled from Pakistan, they would pull out of the event altogether.

At one point, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) offered to swap hosting rights with the PCB, willing to host the entire tournament, but this was rejected by the PCB.

With the stalemate all too apparent, a second option of splitting the tournament between two countries including Pakistan emerged during informal discussions, which was eventually presented and discussed at a formal ACC meeting.

Both the PCB and BCCI are understood to have been open to such a plan, subject to working out the details and logistics to everyone's satisfaction. The plan will also be submitted to their governments before a formal timetable is drawn up.
