Afghanistan defeated Pakistan for the first time in International Cricket

BADSHAHBOOK: They were very close to defeating Pakistan in 2019, 2021 and 2022 but finally did it in 2023.

Afghanistan beats Pakistan for the first time in a Twenty20 game on Friday after the latter were restricted to 92-9.

Eleven years since the two sides first met, Afghanistan secured the victory they probably craved more than any other, sweeping Pakistan by six wickets in the first T20I in Sharjah. Where the home side were on the better ground from beginning to finish, they locked the win in style. Mohammad Nabi was the hero with the bat, a six over mid off from Ihsanullah to cap off a brilliant performance with both bat and ball.

"We are happy to win because we have always lost against them by small margins," said Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan. “To Wear the colors of Afghanistan and lead the team to victory is a very proud achievement. We never know the goal. .. (but) thinking was . .  adjust accordingly."

It has been more than 11 years since the two teams first met and Rashid Khan finally managed to win his first international match against Pakistan.

Pakistan elected to bat first after winning the toss but Afghanistan immediately established their dominance and kept the young Pakistani batting on a leash. On a surface where batting was extremely difficult, Pakistan crumbled in the face of disciplined Afghan bowling, shedding wickets at regular intervals and struggling to put any pressure on the hosts. No Pakistani batsman managed to reach 20 as the innings faltered at 92 for 9 as Pakistan finished with their fifth-lowest T20I total.

Afghanistan's chase marked the issues of batting on the surface and Pakistan's bowlers were making herbage with the ball. Ihsanullah was just exceptional on debut, scoring two wickets in his first three balls as Afghanistan started to lose three wickets and Pakistan intimidated to run through their line-up. But in a game where experience mattered more than flamboyance, Nabi came out to calm Afghan nerves, his unbeaten run-a-ball 38 and an assured partnership with Najibullah Zadran closing the door on Pakistan.

Pakistan will be hoping to bounce back from this loss in the second T20I on March 27, while Afghanistan will be on the cusp of sealing a historic series victory.
