Ajit Agarkar on the defeat of Delhi Capitals against Gujarat Titans

Agarkar refused to admit that Sarfaraz Khan and Prithvi Shaw struggled against great fast bowling.

Delhi Capitals not played good enough in totality, said Ajit Agarkar after defeat with Gujarat Titans

BADSHAHBOOK: Delhi Capitals (DC) assistant coach Ajit Agarkar has said that his team has failed in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as a whole and we should not label players individually. On Tuesday, April 4, Delhi Capitals got thrashed with a 6-wicket defeat from the hands of the defending champions Gujarat Titans.

After being sent in to bat first, Capitals scored 162 for the loss of eight wickets, mostly due to Axar Patel's cameo of 36 off 22 with two fours and three sixes. But the Titans came home with 11 balls to spare.

"It makes no sense to single out individuals. In totality, we were not good enough in both the matches and we need to improve as we are competing against good teams. Big credit to Gujarat and we have to improve together as a group as a batting unit to achieve better results,” Agarkar told reporters.

Agarkar even refused to admit that Sarfaraz Khan and Prithvi Shaw struggled against great fast bowling.

 

“I mean they were running against fast bowling before. I don't think we batted well in general, so why point to one or two guys. None of our top orders really, really went. I mean, in both games we didn't have big problems at the top with some of the other teams and you can see the difference," he said.

Agarkar also backed fast bowler Mukesh Kumar to make it big in the upcoming games. The Bengal fast bowler is yet to take a wicket in the two matches he has played in IPL 2023.

"He played two matches. I thought that he did good bowling in Lucknow, also he started well today but ran into David Miller who already bowled a couple of bowlers. Mukesh is a top player and has learned from his experience but as someone being played two games I am aware of in the IPL, money is a big issue but we see the quality he has and with experience he will show that and improve as a player,” added Agarkar.

 

So that is actually positive for us as well as he seemed too comfortable from behind the stumps defending someone quite quick like Nortje. So a real positive for us and you have to keep building on that. Different players will have to raise their hand as we need better performances,” concluded Agarkar.

"It's always going to be difficult to replace someone like Rishabh Pant, but you can't argue about it all the time. You have to try and fix it with the players you have and (Porel was) very impressive in his approach, and for someone so young he wasn't level to show that kind of temperament and when he came on we had a lot of problems."
