Amit Mishra Controversy: Seen Covering Ball Saliva During the RCB-LSG IPL 2023 Match

BADSHAHBOOK: Lucknow Super Giants spinner Amit Mishra has stirred controversy by being caught on camera applying saliva to the ball during a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The International Cricket Council (ICC) had banned bowlers from using saliva on the ball to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

However, the 40-year-old Mishra, who was all set to attack for the first time in the match, absentmindedly applied saliva to the ball before delivering his first ball. Mishra then went on to concede singles on the first two balls but eventually took RCB's first wicket partnership of 96 runs by dismissing Virat Kohli.

In the match, Virat Kohli played aggressively against pacers during power-play, scoring 61 runs off 44 balls. Faf du Plessis also scored 79 runs from 46 balls, while Glenn Maxwell contributed 59 runs off just 29 balls.

RCB posted a challenging total of 212/2 in 20 overs. However, the Lucknow Super Giants showed determination and resilience, with Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran scoring 65 and 62 runs respectively.

Wayne Parnell and Harshal Patel picked up three and two wickets respectively for RCB, but Lucknow Super Giants managed to secure a thrilling victory by one wicket.

The use of saliva on the ball has been a contentious issue in cricket ever since the pandemic broke out. The ICC had implemented a temporary ban on the use of saliva to prevent the spread of the virus.

Instead, bowlers were encouraged to use sweat to shine the ball. However, the ban has not been strictly enforced, and many bowlers have been caught using saliva on the ball in recent matches.

The incident involving Amit Mishra is the latest in a series of such violations, and it highlights the need for strict adherence to the ICC's rules on the use of saliva on the ball.

In conclusion, the incident involving Amit Mishra's use of saliva on the ball during the match between the Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore has generated controversy.

While Mishra was caught on camera applying saliva to the ball, he went on to take the important wicket of Virat Kohli. However, the incident highlights the need for strict adherence to the ICC's rules on the use of saliva on the ball, particularly in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
