With the introduction of the Impact Player rule for the IPL 2023 season, there has been a significant shift in the history of the IPL.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India recently ruled out revised rules and regulations effective from the upcoming IPL season.
New Rules of IPL 2023
With the introduction of the Impact Player rule for the IPL 2023 season, there has been a significant shift in the history of the IPL. The competition will otherwise be governed by the rules from the last iteration. The rules of IPL 2023 are described in the following sections:

- Before the start of the final 11 after the draw in IPL 2023, the team captains can enter the field with two separate teams.
- Teams can choose their best 11 after the draw depending on the result of the draw. But until last season, captains had to change teams before throwing.
- The new regulation was introduced by the BCCI to curb the adage "win the toss, win the match" in certain circumstances.
- In 2023, two DRS will be used in the IPL.
- In IPL, players can view wides and no-balls.
- After the catch is dismissed, the incoming batsman bowls regardless of whether the batsmen have gone over or not, unless it is the last ball of the over.
- The BCCI will try to schedule the game again later in IPL 2023, if a side is not able to find its starting line-up due to COVID-19.
- The IPL technical team will try to investigate the situation further if rescheduling is not an option.
- In a play-off or championship game, the club that finished higher in the league will be crowned champions if the Super Over or any future Super Overs cannot be completed for any reason.
IPL 2023 updated game rules
- For each crossing not completed in the allotted time, the penalty is for crossing only four players in the field outside the 30-yard circle.
- A dead ball and five penalty runs will result from an unfair move by the goalkeeper.
- Unfair movement of a fielder will result in a dead ball and five penalty runs.
