BADSHAHBOOK: Delhi Capitals witnessed the presence of a special guest Rishabh Pant in New Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium at the time of their first home-match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Hardik Pandya led Gujarat Titans.
The regular DC captain and wicketkeeper-batsman is currently recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident late last year. Pant was seen arriving at the venue in a car and then slowly walked towards the booth. He was later photographed watching the match from the stands.
In the first match with Lucknow Super Giants, the DC team showed Rishabh Pant's captain's jersey number 17 as a gesture that he will be "always in spirit with the team". But, an IPL source told Badshahcric that it was made clear with the BCCI’s end that such a gesture seemed "over the top '' and was "undesirable" at one level.
"It seemed a bit over the top. Such a gesture is reserved for ultimate tragedy or retirement. In this case, it was neither. Rishabh is well and truly on his way to a quicker recovery than expected. So while it was done with a noble intention they learned that the BCCI has politely told the franchise to avoid such a gesture in future,” an IPL source said.

It is well observed that chief coach Ricky Ponting gave the idea to display Rishabh Pant's jersey from the dugout. The Delhi Capitals will honor Pant by writing his jersey number on all players during one of the games when the team will be wearing a different color. However, the number of the jersey will be written in one corner and it will not be a violation of the individual jersey numbers of the players.
"Each season, DC uses a different jersey during one particular game. In that game, everyone will have Pant's jersey number written on their jersey. However, there is a specific rule for the logo and it will be a small script in one corner," the source said.
In their campaign opener against Lucknow Super Giants, DC lost by 50 runs.

In the first game with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the team gave tribute to their skipper by just hanging his jersey No. 17 on the roof of the dug-out as a symbol that he is always present in spirit. Additionally, it has been reported that the team plans to pay tribute to Pant by inscribing his jersey number on all the players’ uniforms during one of the games when the team will wear a different color.
