Reasons - IPL 2023 will be different from IPL 2022
BADSHAHBOOK: The Indian Premier League is scheduled to begin on March 31 this year. It means that the most popular cricket league in the world is just days away. As usual, cricket fans in India are excited as the cash-rich league returns with a new flavour. After two years of Covid-induced restrictions, the IPL will be played at various venues in India.
As per IPL standards, teams will play seven home matches and seven away matches during the league phase this year. Lots of surprises are in store for the online viewers too as this time the new channel grabs the rights to telecast live IPL matches in India. IPL 2023 comes with many firsts and many initiatives that promise to take the user experience to a whole new level.
IPL 2023 is going back to the old format of the league
COVID-19 has forced the BCCI to organise the IPL under severe pandemic protocols. Teams played in a strict biobubble atmosphere due to the virus to ensure less travel and stricter protocols. However, the Indian Premier League will resume its previous structure of one team playing 7 home games and the other 7 away games as vaccinations of players and staff have limited the spread of the virus. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly himself confirmed this.

Jio Cinema gets rights to broadcast live IPL matches
Unlike previous additions, Disney+Hotstar will not stream IPL matches live. Instead, Viacom 18 grabbed the rights to telecast the matches live in India by paying a total of INR 951 million to the BCCI. It should be noted that the Star Sports network will continue to telecast the matches live on television in India.
Live broadcasts from multiple camera angles for the first time
During the IPL 2023 edition, users will have access to multiple video streams of the matches, each showing a different camera angle at once, all in ultra high definition. Additionally, while still previewing other video streams, we can dynamically select which camera angle we want to focus on.
Players will be able to request review for wide balls and no-balls
Using the Decision Review System (DRS), players can now challenge umpires' decisions on wides and no-balls. The rule was originally introduced in the Women's Premier League (WPL) in 2023 and will now also be used in the 16th season of the IPL. Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur was the first captain to use a review to overturn a wide umpire's decision in the opening match of the WPL.
New Impact Player rule
The BCCI has also incorporated a new 'Impact Player' rule for IPL 2023, which allows each team to substitute any of the four substitutes for one of their players on the field at any time during the game. However, the substituted player will not be able to continue the game - not even as a substitute.
Note: Only an Indian can be an impact player if the team selects four international players in their starting eleven.
