In his interview with Badshahcric, Sehwag was furious about Shaw's dismissal, explaining that he has been dismissed in this way many times and yet he doesn't care to learn from his mistakes.

BADSHAHBOOK: Former India opener Virender Sehwag recently expressed his concern over Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw's inability to capitalize on his chances in the ongoing IPL 2023 season. Shaw, who was dismissed for just seven runs against Gujarat Titans, attempted to stop a Mohammed Shami delivery over the line . Sehwag criticized Shaw's shot selection and in light of the tight competition for places in the Indian team, he believes the DC opener cannot afford to waste his opportunities in the IPL.

 

Sehwag reminded Shaw that his rivals have moved far ahead in the race, pointing to Gill, who was part of the same India U-19 team, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has scored more than six hundred runs in the season 14th of IPL.

This was Shaw's second consecutive batting failure in IPL 2023. After being dismissed for 7 off 5 against Gujarat Titans in Delhi's home game on Tuesday, he managed just 12 off 9 against Lucknow Super Giants last week.

Shaw still remained distant from the reckoning in the ODI cricket format and was even recently picked up for the T20I series in front of New Zealand in early January, however, was unable to get a game as the management backed Gill as the primary opener.

In his interview with Badshahcric, Sehwag was furious about Shaw's dismissal, explaining that he has been dismissed in this way many times and yet he doesn't care to learn from his mistakes. It was a short delivery from Mohammed Shami, placed outside off and Shaw mishit the shot which took it straight to the fielder at mid-on.

Viru compared Shaw's performances with that of Indian Cricket star Shubman Gill to draw how far the former is straggling behind. In a post-match interview with Cricbuzz, Sehwag said that Shaw has been dismissed several times for playing similar shots and needs to learn from his mistakes. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, who got to play U-19 cricket alongwith Shaw, currently plays for India in the Test series, ODIs and T20Is.

 

Sehwag stressed the importance of Shaw making the most of the IPL platform and scoring runs. With the competition for places in the Indian team getting tougher, Shaw needs to raise his game and showcase his skills to the selectors.

Sehwag's criticism of Shaw's IPL 2023 performance has raised concerns about the opener's future prospects in the Indian team. Whether Shaw would be able to rise to the game and prove his worth in the Indian Premier League and beyond still remains to be witnessed.
